Cambridge IGCSE

The Cambridge International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) is one of the world’s most popular international curricula for 14-16 year old, leading to globally-recognized and valued Cambridge IGCSE qualifications. Around 1.8 million students from 160 countries enter Cambridge examinations every year.

IGCSE courses are taught over a two-year period, spreading over Grades 9 and 10. Cambridge qualifications cultivate successful students. They not only build understanding and knowledge required for progression, but also learning and thinking skills that help students become independent learners, equipping them for life.

The resulting qualification provides a foundation for higher level courses, such as A and AS Levels: The Advanced International Certificate of Education and the International Baccalaureate. The IGCSE is comparable with the GCE O Level and the UK GCSE. It has an excellent reputation amongst international schools worldwide.

The IGCSE is recognized as a reliable record of attainment which counts towards the entry to universities and colleges around the world. A good grade (i.e. C or above) in IGCSE English as a Second Language is accepted for entry by almost all universities in the UK and many in the USA, Canada and Australia as evidence of adequate competence in the English language.

Assessment System

At FIS, IGCSE courses take two years to complete, with exam taken at the end of Grade 10.

Cambridge IGCSE examination sessions occur twice a year, in May/June and October/November. Results are issued in August and January. The assessment is aimed at a wide ability-range of students, with an eight-point grading scale, from A* to G, with A* being the highest.
